Abstract of Story: -
It was winter in London, calm clear skies, rooftops layered over by snow and vehicles crawling along the road, hoping to get to their destination without crashing into a tree. It was a typical Monday morning and for Ray, the start of a long dreary day.

With almost two years' bus driving experience under his belt, Ray was a skilled driver and that was apart from the other talents he possessed which would come in handy during the next couple of months. Because he was assessing the weather, Ray failed to notice his arch-enemy sitting in his office with a stick up his ass. The guy was named Dave. Ray tried hard not to cross his path because he was the type of person who nit-picked everything that was out of place. It was a shame, the garage used to be a nice place to work but it had became a war zone with mundane infractions the biggest weapon. Dave loved rules and he followed them to the letter.

A smooth start to the day always determined how the rest of Ray's shift was to go. He could relax or put up his defenses, depending on how things went within the first ten minutes. Being met by a six-foot obese man in a suit was not a good sign.

Name: - The Lorelei Signal & Sorcerous Signals
Type: - Publisher, Online
Genre: - Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mixed

Info from there website: -
The Lorelei Signal is aweb based magazine dedicated to featuring strong female characters in Fantasy short stories.

This does not mean I don't want to see strong men either, balance is the key. I just don't want to see female characters who are weak, having to be constantly rescued, etc. Females in the story should have the same strength of character as their male counterparts and not be there as window dressing. This has been changing over the years in fantasy writing - the idea of the female character being nothing more than a sidekick, the princess to be rescued, etc has faded significantly. But, she still shows up occasionally.

The title of this magazine was taken from the Animated Star Trek episode by the same name. In that episode the men of the Enterprise fell under a siren song and it was Lt. Uhura who had to take command of the Enterprise. It was a pretty hokey set-up to finally get a female in the command chair of the original Enterprise, but at least she got there.

So tell us your fantasy stories, but remember you have to include a strong female character in an important role.

Abstract of Navigator: -
Endora Toinette stood before her reflection in the bathroom mirror, wondering if this was all life had installed for her. She had been born on her home world, Plaxes, and joined the academy to hone her natural skills in space flight. But she wanted more; she wanted freedom and a life away from the monsters that controlled this ship. But she could not do that. She was a Navigator.

Travelling through slipstream was dangerous and without a Navigator to guide them any ship ran the risk of running into a planet, asteroid or sun. The Plaxians’ had remedied this hazard by allowing one of their citizens to travel on alien ships and make instant changes to its flight path. With the capability to project their mind several light-years ahead of the vessel, they could see dangers and make the appropriate course change. In the two-thousand year history of using the Plaxians’, not one single starship succumbed to its doom.

Endora waved her hand over the sink and it began to fill with water. She made a cup with her gentle hands and washed the cool liquid over her soft face. She sighed as she felt the crystals of water trickled down her face and finally strolled over to the cabinet to pick up her headband. The gold leafed circlet, called the ‘Spirit of Wings,’ was a religious symbol for her race indicating she was a fully-fledged Navigator capable of guiding ships through slipstream. She looked at the pair of wings that symbolised flight and she slowly slipped the band into her purple hair, resting the wings above her ears. An emerald jewel heightened her abilities as it glowed faintly on her forehead.

Info: -
A battle for right, a battle for a child. One ship, two enforcers with a conflict of interest.

In the distant future mankind sent a ship with five thousand people into the depths of space to colonize a new world called Terra Secondo: Second Earth. But their journey takes 400 years and sacrifices had to be made. Mankind no longer has the freedom to choose its destiny. Families must undergo severe checks before having children and when sex is outlawed, enforcers must discover if they are human or pure machines.

During the final years of the voyage, one enforcer ends up trapped between his loyalties, between his friends and his new illegal child.

What will happen?

Abstract of Story: -
She sat on the edge of the silk covered bed and slowly manoeuvred herself into a cat-like position. She deliberately made sure that her firm butt was aligned perfectly with the lone individual who sat in the corner of the Spartan steel room. Once she piqued his interest, she slowly crawled into the centre of the bed and lifted her upper body towards the ceiling. Her long, blond hair fell perfectly down her round breasts and she slowly began to lower her crisp white thong along slender legs.

"I know what you want," she teased. "I have many skills and I know you must be...very lonely in your line of work."

The man stood from his womb-like chair and strolled towards the gorgeous female posing erotically on the bed. He was just about to touch her succulent tender breasts when someone barged into the room.

"Robert Arturo. We have an illegal birth taking place, you are needed with the extermination squad." The man-who was momentary transfixed by the slender woman as he entered the room-took his eyes off the female and stared at Robert.

The man watched Robert hastily slipped into his navy blue uniform with gold epaulets and run his hands through his greasy hair, trying to hide the embarrassment on his face.  He then led the way through the exit and hastily marched down the passageway, not looking back.

Halfway down the passageway, Robert asked, "What's the location of that illegal birth?"

"Deck 73 habitat ring midsection, sir."

"Are the units in place?"

"Not yet, sir. We're waiting for your signal...sir?" the individual asked with a sneer.

"What it is Maddox?" Robert replied, not slowing the pace, but knowing his comrade was about to ask about the blond girl.

"Sex is illegal on the United Nations Wedline." Maddox shrugged his shoulders. "You know, population control and such. It was a law brought down by the Arbitrators. You know that."

Robert looked into his partner's eyes and felt some level of annoyance. He knew the rules and did not need him to recite them. Sex was forbidden for health and social reasons because the first captain outlawed it after the great disease that started the mass riots. Many people lost their lives and drastic action had to be taken. The breeding program was very selective. Sperm was taken, then examined for the perfect designer baby which would survive the long trip and help build the perfect society on this new world. Natural births were strictly forbidden. Any natural birth was immediately terminated and it became common practice throughout the years.
